Made by a captain
I’m Martin. I have been sailing as a captain for about 25 years, in a rhythm of two weeks on and two weeks off. Next to sailing I build software for inland shipping, under the name ShipDocs.
Why I build this
I don’t know the paperwork from a manual; I do it myself, on board. Calling around to find out where a vessel is, working out how long you lay somewhere, retyping sailing times at the end of the week. That had to be easier.
So I started solving it myself. The information already exists: every vessel transmits AIS. BargeFlow Port Reporter lines that information up, so you have to call less and retype less.
How I work
ShipDocs is small, on purpose. I build what I need on board myself, and what users ask me for. Right now I am looking for a few shipping companies and charterers who want to try it and tell me honestly what could be better.
Next to BargeFlow Port Reporter I make, among other things, BargeFlow for digital procedures and forms, the Reisplanner for routes with bridges and locks, and a free calculator for the minimum crew.
